I've got a pc in the office that is suffering the symptoms of a corrupt printer driver described here (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24759&highlight=spoolsv.exe) and I've followed the instructions detailed here (http://www.jsifaq.com/SUBJ/tip4900/rh4900.htm) which solved the problem but only for a few days.

It's happened again so I'm wondering if there is some other underlying cause for the problem as I don't want to have to keep doing this every few days

PC is an Athlon 2600, with 256 RAM running Win2K and the printer is a Brother HL-1450

Try uninstalling and re-installing the printer.

Hopefully, when the registry settings and driver files [and others] are deleted at uninstall then re-written at re-install it will be done correctly.

During re-install, Windows may warn you that you are about to overwrite some newer files with older versions.
It would be a good idea to run "System File Checker" = "SFC" or whatever the equivalent is in Win 2K to update the list of existing system files. That way you could check after the install, which newer files were overwritten with old [if any].
I'm guessing here that some of the files needed for the proper operation of your printer are being overwritten by a Windows update.

Just grabbing at straws.

That's what I've already done but the problem has come back again a few days later, hence the post.

The fix you linked to, seemed to be instructing you to edit out registry settings, with no files deleted.
Perhaps I was wrong in thinking that.

I believed that using "Add/Remove Programs" would delete files as well as all registry settings, and re-installing would put them back.

Do you think that those instructions had the same effect as uninstalling and re-installing?
