My Primary and Secondary IDE controllers are not working properly (or so the system says). They show a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark inside.

Q. Does anyone know how I can put these right ?

I discovered the problem whilst running a trouble shooting session to find out why my PC is not recognising my CD-ROM drive as I needed to run my recovery disc because I had lost three of my multi media facilities.

I did get my CD-ROM facility back for a short time, but lost it again as soon as I used the recovery disc. I am now at a total loss as to what to try next. Are the malfunctioning IDE Controllers the cause of the loss of the CD-ROM or a completely separate issue, as the error message was still showing that these controllers were not working properly during the short time I managed to get the CD-ROM operational?

I have very little technical knowledge regarding computers and have to rely on the inadequate trouble shooting help files in the machine, so I would be most grateful if anyone does have an answer to my problem to explain in the simplest of terms.

With many thanks for any advice.
Regards, Hopeful

Do you have instant messager and are using it?. . DO you have a virus protection and is it updated?Did you scan your drives for viruses, If you dont have a virus protection, then the virus is already on your computer and there is no way to detect it cause it can swerve the antivirus, and also it will not let you update the virus protection.
There is a way, however its a longshot, but reboot your computer and hit f8 before you get to windows
Then youll have a list of options, hit shift+f5, then youll see a screeen that has c:/
Then at that c:/ type inscanreg/restore
Aftter that choose a date , preferably a date a while back and then it should load up , and then see if everything is ok, if its not just post back. But remember this command takes your computer back to that date and what ever that was on your computer after that time will be lost.

Hi there Hopeful
It sounds like you will possibly have to re-install your mobo drivers again. If you have the original disk supplied with the computer you should find the them there. If you do not have the disks and know the maker of your mobo go to their site and download the appropriate drivers. If you are not sure about your motherboard go to the following link, and you will find tools that will help you identify your board http://www.motherboards.org/
Hope this helps,
