I got a used computer that had Win 95, 2GB hard drive, 133 MHZ Pentium, and a (3com network card - I think). It worked fine until I tried to put a 20 GB Maxtor, an ATA 100 card, take off the 3com network card, and load Win ME. I remember that the computer was telling me there was no operating system, so I was trying to boot from the maxtor diskette, a Win 95 diskette, and the Win ME CD. I think I've confused my computer too much, because now it won't even beep or go into BIOS. The fans and the LED's work. I restored everything back to the original configuration, but got the same negative results. Please help.

Hello Tony,
First off,....DO NOT PUT ME ON THIS MACHINE!!!!, you will be in for more problems then you can shake a RAM stick at http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif
Next, you may not get this machine to work with the ATA card. I recently went thru this and had to abandon ship on the machine.
I think you are trying to throw to much at this old machine and should go back to the original configuration.
Make sure you have all jumpers correct on the 2G.drive and maybe clear the CMOS.
If you have a legit copy of 98, it will work on this machine.
Good luck

Please let us know if what we suggest helps. This helps us help you better.
Also you may be able to get the new drive to work with a slower ATA card (like an ATA 66). Or using an overlay program (available form Maxtor) to get the drive recognized. But in general I think it would be better off like bassman says at or close to the original configuration.....
