Is there a peripheral item and software I can use to put photographic slides onto a CD. Good source on the net? What kind of CD does one use to do that and put music in back of it--slide show on a disk. If I have to go to a pro shop for that, what is a reasonable price to expect for that kind of service.

How many slides are you talking about? Price out the service at a local camera shop and price a Nikkon CVoolscan slide scanner. A friend of mine has one and it works great..... Pricey but very nice.

I have a pro shop here that does it for $20 to a full DVD.

Yeah they make money but I don't have to buy the equipment.

If you have a large number of slides, they are usually quite old. The software that comes with scanner allows you to fix and improve your images before you comit them to disk. It costs alot more, but how much are your memories worth??

I can agree with Classic on his points, DIY is always the more flexible choice if you can do it.

How many slides can you get on a CD for $20, that sounds cheap, and what kind of CD would I have them put it on so I could add music to it? is there a particular kind?

They will be able to add the music for you can convert it into a dvd slide show. You can get 1000's of pictures on a CD or DVD
