Hi all!
:)

I'm trying to find out something very basic, which is: "What is the range of the Microsoft Wireless Desktop for BlueTooth"???

My mate wants to use one of these things, in the next room to the computer, so that he can browse the net, watch DVD's and DivX from the lounge, which has an LCD Projector which is connected to the computer.

My concern is, that these wireless keyboards/mice, are only designed to allow cordless operation over a maximum range of a couple of meters, with no walls/obstructions in the way. BUT - I could be completely wrong.

My mate does not want to buy this set, if it will not do this "Through the wall operation", and I can see his point - they are considerably more expensive then standard keyboard/mouse.

I've tried the MS webpages for these devices, and also tried searching their knowledgebase, but no help.

Can anyone help with answering this question?
Perhaps a member who has this keyboard/mouse set?

Ta!

The range is about 30 feet..
But will be reduced by the walls

In other words longer than it needs to be, but not quite long enough to do everything.....

I would imagine that it would work ok through adjoining rooms, but it would also depend on location of machine, thickness/materials (a plaster wall will cut down more than a drywall wall), size of doorway, etc....

From one of the posts within the last two weeks, you may need XP to support the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse unless I am mistaken.

LOL, it was your post 3/14/2004

My friend just got one of those. I've been to his house, and it has a hell of a long distance. Around 30 feet it starts fading out, and that is THROUGH walls. It's a nice product. I bought a 'wireless' keyboard/mouse combo, and it was a piece of crap. Now the place I bought it from wants to stick me with a 20% restocking fee for their crap.
