I am trying to replace a hard drive on a HP Pavilion 8565c. It looks like I will have to remove to front cover to make the swap. Can't figure it out! It looks like the smokey gray insert has to come out first but ....I have no clue as to how to get it off. I looked in the manual and online at HP, no help there. Anybody know the secret and willing to share it?
Thank you

Welcome to Welcome to http://pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif
I had to work on my neighbor's HP Pavilion a year or so ago. Unfortunately the only thing I remember about it was feeling like I was breaking it just to open it up. It wasn't a pleasant experience to say the least.
From what I remember, I think you do need to take the entire front panel off (there are plastic tabs that make this extremely difficult), and then you should be able to open it up with somewhat less trouble.
Mostly I just remember that it was a royal pain. Sorry you have to go through that. :(

I looked in the manual and online at HP, no help there. I guess this is what you are looking for,

Ahh-Huh That was the ticket. I had looked online but missed the instructions on opening the case. I may not have looked at installing a hard drive, strangely enough. The trick is that you do not remove the face plate/bezel but slide the drive bays out thorough the front of the cabinet with the bezels still attached. Thank you shanmuga.
