Along with Yoda's request...have you added any new software/drivers lately or other devices?

You hear the hard drive spinning up because it's getting 12V power directly from the power supply module.
If the CPU fan that you also hear is getting power directly from the power supply, then your system has either a bad MB or CPU.
If the CPU fan gets its power from a MB connection, then suspect the CPU.

I had the same problem when I built my system. Found that when I installed the motherboard I pushed it all the way to the back of the case and when I installed the video card in the AGP slot it was to tight aginst the back of the case and the contacts didn't line up with the slot. It would still POST but no video. I solved the problem by loosening all the screws in the motherboard installing the video card than tightening the motherboard screws.

Alright who messed it up this time!

I had this problem and it turned out to be the power button I had to replace the case.
It's the worst when you can't see anything it drove me crazy I tried everything because you wouldn't think the power button would have to do w/ the video.
