I have been over at blackvipers web site and noticed that he says to stay away from any 'mx' video card but does not explain the 'whys' for this. The system I have does not have onboard video and I have a GeForce 2 mx400 video card in it. I am not a gamer so please keep that in mind. I have not experienced any problems that I am aware of that could be related to the video card but I wonder if I should maybe be looking at changing the card out for something better?
Your current video card is fine if you are not a gamer, or do not edit video.
MX video cards are termed 'value' cards due to their slow performing chipsets and memory, which cause slow frame rates, especially when using higher resolutions and advanced game settings.
And if there's one thing that gamers hate more than anything else, it's slow frame rates.

You would probably notice a slight performance gain by going to a faster video card. A slow video card takes a little longer to write to the display so every program takes a little hit.
You have a pretty fast PC, but your bottleneck is the MX400 video card.
I would go to a Geforce4 Mx440 for under $50 at NewEgg.
Nah, you will not notice any difference with an MX 440 vs. your MX 400 running normal applications.
If you want to spend some $ to increase performance, then get a 7200 RPM HD to replace your 5400 RPM unit.
This will give a very noticeable performance increase.

My hd is 7200rpm. I was more interested in the 'mx' reference of the video card. I am happy with performance for what I use the machine for, but was curious about the 'mx' thing. The machine is very quick in my estimation and any games that are played are not quick reaction oriented, if you know what I mean. The motherboard does not have built in video, which was something that was not generally recommended when I built this system, so, at the time I just bought a cheap video card that sounded OK for a non-gamer.
PS. I have also just bought win XP and am considering a total update/revamp of my system.

Black Viper is just warning newbies about the MX's and SE's and LE's and all the other cheapo labels put on video cards. The GeForce4 MX series was the biggest sham primarily because its use of the '4' was misleading - it suggested that a GF4 MX was better than a GF3, which just wasn't true.
No one is saying that the MX's aren't good video cards, just that they aren't as good as their names suggest. That's why BV made such a big deal out of it.

Thanks, I'll stay with what works, and not worry about what might have been or could be!
