View Full Version : M7VKD [Biostar] Problems

Hi. I recently purchased a Biostar M7VKD motherboard. I have an AMD Duron 1.0 GHz processor in it. Windows XP for the operating system. When booting the system, and looking at the system processes [ctrl-alt-del] its showing me a system CPU load of 12%-40% (sometimes even higher)... this is right after a REBOOT, and nothing else is loaded. I have unplugged my network connection, thinking that perhaps something there was causing it, and I still have the same results.

I upgraded this system from a Duron 800 [using a K7SEM (ECS) motherboard] and replaced it with the Biostar, as I was told that it supports the new XP processor [which I plan[ned] to purchase later], however, given all of these issues, I'm not sure if I even want to keep the pile of crap.

Can someone offer me some type of help here? Or just tell me to take the POS back http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I dont` know the new mobo you have but if I am not wrong is a good one and recommended from AMD. Anyway, If I am not wrong your complaint is that the CPU usage gauge goes up to 40% and higher but is the PC also going on the "slow" side? in other words is the PC slower than before, when you had the other mobo? how much memory you have?
I have XP prof. on a Duron 700 and the values change a lot, up to 50% and I have experienced a small slow down compare to win98se but it is known that XP is devouring resources. So is it only the 40-50% CPU usage that concernes you or what?

Yes, the CPU usage goes that high, in addition to massive system slow downs. I also have a 1.4 Thunderbird, with a FIC motherboard, and it NEVER has any load [well, it does, but never has over 1% when I'm doing nothing]. This one has at LEAST 16% right after it boots up, and just sitting and watching it, it jumps as high, if not higher, than 48%. The old system, as I said, was in an ECS K7SEM motherboard, and a Duron 800. We got this "new" board, because we were told it was XP approved, and a good board [planned to upgrade to an XP later on] but at this point, I'm thinkin this board is a pile of crap.

Well if you upgrade from a 800 to 1ghz you will not see much of a difference. Also duron have 128k cache as opposed to the xp and thunderbird processer of 384. So i could see wwhy the athlon is faster)1.4)
Biostar is not the greatest motherboard but its not the worst. Did you load the 4in 1 drivers and so forth.

What you need to do is check and see if this Mboard is even WinXP compatable. ie: Drivers etc.

Are all of your other hardware WinXP compatable? This O/S isn't just a plug and play O/S. It hasn't been on the market long enough and all of the hardware just doesn't get along just yet.

I realize you bought it because it will handle an AMD XP processor.

I detect an attitude here. Take a deep breath and have a Dew. We cause most of our own problems.

Luck.

Actually I just threw my old 800 into this board, and I'm still getting the same problems in regard to CPU % load. It starts off at around 68%, then drops for a few minutes, and stays around the 30's then levels off at around 14%-16%. My whole thing is, that it'd odd, being that nothing is running at the time, and that the 800 worked with about a 1% load [when idle] on my old board -- could it be a board issue?

Actually, I did check biostar's webpage, and they make no mention of Windows XP compatability, nor incompatabilty (though all hardware was recoginized and appears to be working just fine) -- however, I don't believe this to be an OS issue [I could be wrong]. I put my old duron 800 into this board, and it still has a very very high cpu load %, when the system is completely idle. {it's like something is running in the background and eating up cpu resources} -- I've built two of the exact same systems with this board, and a 1.0 Duron, and they both are having the same issue.

I did get a BIOS upgrade from biostar's page [however this was just for the XP processor], and yet, its still giving me a high load %. I'm just wondering if it _could_ be some issue with the board, as I've checked their page, and haven't found any pertinent information.

Yeah i would not waste my time looking for issues like this, cause youll never find them. Tech suppport will not either, trust me. If you ever find the answer it will be a miracle. Maybe the system monitor is off or something on the boards. Maybe its not calibrated right with windows, what monitor are you using.
I tell you what, as long as the computer is not freezing up or having slow down problems, i would not worry about it . Youll go crazy trying to figure this out trust me i done it be4 , however not about this related issue.
