I have a problem where i will be working away at my pc and for some reason the screen just goes black. The PC doesn’t reboot or crash and is still running, but the only way to fix the screen is by hitting the re-set button. On rebooting no error message comes up, the problem is especially bad when i try and play a game (Command and Conquer Generals) the pc will load the game and as soon as game is about to play, the screen will go black (also happens with other games) I have run several different memory tests and all show no problem. I have had a couple of error reports after crashes saying that i have bad memory sector and need to run the test, but its a no show. Does any one have any ideas, could it be a driver conflict, there is a D bracket with 4 diagnostic LEDs on the pc but I’m not sure how that works, Any help appreciated. The pc is operating on xp with 512 mb ram and an onboard G force 2 graphics card, could it be the onboard Graphics, all drivers are up to date

What memory test are you running?? I would suggest: http://www.memtest86.com/ and http://www.simmtester.com/PAGE/products/doc/docinfo.asp

Also, I would suggest downloading your harddrive diagnostics and run them also...

PC worked fine up until about 4 weeks ago when this started happening, i have had the odd crash, but nothing major. The memory test i ran was both the memtest 86 and a microsoft one. Where would i find hard drive diagnostics software, from the manufacture?

Thanks for the help there, have run the hard drive test with no problems showing. Unfortunatly th eproblems is still occuring, any clues as to what would be next

Re-install the drivers for the video card.

Do you by any chance have xp and an nividia geforce card? Check under My Computer Properties in the hardware manager.

I'd check the power settings as well. Go to control panel and check out the 'power options'
Make sure that everything is turned to 'always on' or the 'turn XXX off after' is set to 'never' - see if the problem reoccurs.

Note that it's best to try solutions one at a time - then you can post back here and let us know exactly what cures the problem. Future readers with similar problems will be eternally grateful!:)
