Hi guys

I can't for the life of my figure out how to install new video drivers in NT4, (I know but it serves a function) I've being trying for more than a day now. It just keeps coming back to defualt VGA compatible driver and it just WON'T go away.

Is there a safe mode for NT4?

(I learned a lot of windows on NT4 so this is really embarassing)

Did you install the latest service pack for NT4?

Hi ski

I'm just using what I have laying around the house.

NT4 with SP4 the video card (ATI Rage Turbo PCI) is from the same time, also, it's on a P11, I have no idea what board (no markings anywhere) is but it is capable of dual CPU. I'm just using the drivers that come with NT4. It's going to be used as a realtime backup server.

I do remember having this problem before but, as I remember, I had to "dislodge" the default driver. The way I did it before (I think) was to change the defualt monitor, but that option is nowhere to be seen.

I just know it's going to be one of those stupid turn right instead of left things

How is it working with the standard NT4 drivers?

Also, I read that NT4 has to be updated with SP-5 or later in order to update video drivers, but I believe that was for Nvidia cards.

You could try running belarc advisor or something similar to find the details of your system - this might point you in the right direction for driver updates etc.

The defualt driver are great if I want to stay at 640 x 480 x 16 colours. They won't change to anything else.

I've scoured the BIOS, I've done two reinstall, one repair and one fresh, and tried changing the video with and without the service packs, all to no avail.

Just to be sure, windows is where I should be looking for the problem right?

It's also possible that your video card does not have drivers that are compatible with NT4.

Thank you for the suggestion, I have come to the conclusion that the Mobo is no good.
