Hey there! I just got my sister some new RAM for her computer, which is a few years old. It is an Acer Pentium II (I believe, maybe III) 400 mhz. The RAM I got her was 256 megs of PC100 RAM, and her previous computer only had 64 megs of RAM. I apparently had two choices for RAM when I bought it (I must admit, I'm familiar with RAM but the low and high density thing was new to me): low density (for computer that support 500-something megs or RAM or less) and high density. Seeing as her computer is older, and I wasn't sure, I went for low density as it seemed a safe bet.

So, I installed the RAM... it was a bit bigger in general size than the old one (meaning, it was taller and the clips didn't quite fit in perfectly on the sides, but the part that hooks into the computer fit fine, no problem there... same pattern and everything on the bottom end). It seemed in fine, so I started up the computer. Everything went fine, except Windows told me it couldn't access the registry... and so did every other program on her computer, and it said to restart so it could fix this. I did, and it seemed fine, but apparently Colleen (my sis) kept facing this problem. For some reason, the new RAM caused her computer not to access the registry. As you might have expected, the system started up fine when I took the RAM out, no registry problems.

I'd greatly appreciate any help!

If the new RAM is on one stick, then that may not work. There are compatibility problems with some older systems and single stick 256MB memory DIMM's.
Check the computer's or motherboard's documentation for the type and size of RAM that's recommended.
Or check www.crucial.com (http://www.crucial.com) for the memory that's recommended for the system.
