Hi and welcome to the PCGuide Alanchew...

I am not aware of any network scanners - certainly none of the home ones that I am aware of.

However if the PC's are networked and the scanner is attached to one PC then the resultant images can be used by any of the pc's on the network. (that how I deal with this).

Another (less useful imho) idea is to use remote desktops. That way you can log onto the pc with the attached scanner & use it as though it was connected directly to your pc. You do still have to get up & walk over to the scanner to feed it images tho ...

Most scanners these days are USB & (more or less) hot swappable so one could theoretically plug the scanner into wherever it was needed as required. (seems like hard work to me!)

The big network ready printers often include scanning capabilities. The network facility is limited to the print server (I think)

First, to your question regarding the ability to set up a networked scanner: http://www.remote-scan.com/

Secondly, there might be freeware available...

(Edit) Pretty fast there Inka! ;)
