Hi,
In the process of building a new system, have a ABIT KT7 board, installed basic componenets first, i.e video card and HD/RAM system does a POST ok but wont allow me to enter BIOS setup and just goes straight through asking for sytem boot disk, which it picks up if i have the appropriate o/s starup disks in the cd rom or floppy drives. but then wont let me go any further as it wont let me use kboard.

Ok tried another kboard that works still the same, the keyboard is receiving power as all the lights flash as i power up just before POST.
So is the MB knackered? Can I use a USB keyboard and bypass this problem? will it recognise a USB keyboard without having to go into BIOS? which of course I cannot do. It would be nice if I could otherwise it's send the MB back time and it's friggin xmas and I aint gonna get a new one by then me thinks.. bugger
all help gratefully appreciated
cheers

First Place i would look is at the Mother board .
The connectors for power, ide led speaker and so on.
Among them is a keyboard Lock.

If you have those 2 contacts connected it will disable/lock the keyboard
Note that I am not sure that M/B has this feature But it is the first place I would look.

Have you used the clear cmos jumper?
If you use it then reboot is should go to the defaults
This may help you get into the setup.

Also Hold down the DEL key while booting should cause an error message if the chipset can see the keyboard.
Or force you into setup
