Ok my bro, got a ASus A7a266, ddr crucial ram, geforce2,win98se, we ll be playing a game and his pc locks up, and OE somthing pops up most of the time. Others times is something in the memory or something.
So i thought it was bad drivers, reformmatted twice(used format c:/s), and still getting errors. I know its not the game cause it works on my pc. Its either hd or motherboard(i think). What should i pick, i think its the motherboard.

What is the exact text in any error messages?
Does it lock up only when playing games?
Which CPU is it using?

Hey,

If possible, I would swap out the memory for known good memory. Sounds to me like faulty memory, although don't quote me on that. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Good luck.

Um, or it could be a bad driver installation for the video card. Is your friend using the detonator drivers or the drivers that came on the installation CD for the vid card?

You say the game works OK on your system. Do you have the same video card, same drivers?

I would try updating the video card drivers, if they are not the latest version. Also, if you're using the detonator drivers, you might consider using Geforce Tweaker, available at www.guru3d.com. (http://www.guru3d.com.)

Good luck.

yeah i used the detonators and it got worse, but, its brand new memory, im not real sure its the memory. The message is OE something.
Like OE 4505:7362.
I look it on google said its either ram or the cmos memory, think its the cmos memory.
I took one of the ram sticks out and still same problem, im going to switch the other stick and see if that works. I still believe its the motherboard. The problem has plague him from day one, when he got it.

Di,

Since it's new memory, and the problem has existed from day one...I'm wondering if you might have a problem with a faulty DIMM socket as BB alluded to in another post.

Have you looked at the amount of available memory to see if the actual and available are on target?

Di,

Have you tried shuting down all background programs before playing?

I'm wondering if you could play the game in SAFE MODE? You know, minimal set of drivers to see if some other program is creating the problem...
Don't know if it's possible. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

It may be an assumption that because the game plays on your system that it then is not the game...because, you're probably not comparing apples to apples. Does he have all the same software...same Anti Virus...etc., Some program he has might be butting heads with the game.

Have you checked with the game manufacturer site to see if there are any known issues or patches?
