At home I use "Windows XP" Home Edition. At work I use "Windows 98".

Whenever I format a blank 3.5 floppy at home, I can't read it at work and when I format a 3.5 at work I can't read it at home.

I believe Windows XP uses a different file system than Windows 98 (FAT vs. NFTS) ?

Could this be causing the problem in trying to use the same floppy at work and at home ? Is there any settings I can change to make disks readable on both machines ?

I have no problem reading or working with "CD's" or "ZIP" disks created on either machine and used on the other. This problem seems to only occur when working with 3.5" floppies.

Appreciate any help !

This is not a file system incompatability. Floppies use a different file system than HD's. Make sure both floppy drives are formatting 1.44 MB floppies.

The problem here is that one or more of your floppy drives is not calibrated properly or has gone out of calibration. Data is not written on the floppy where the other drive expects it to be.

The cure is to replace one or both drives, starting with the oldest. This will cost you about $10 at NewEgg.
