Blew-up CD or CDROM?

I put a CD in and heard a loud "pop" and now can't open drive either w/ a paperclip or "Eject".

What happened?

It is possible to have a CD-ROM explode or hop off the spindle and wedge into the rear of the drive. You may be able to take out the drive, open top cover and shake out the pieces. (carefully) reassemble, and put it back into the PC.
