Does it reboot at specific times/intervals or is it just random.

Is the cpu getting too hot? is the power button in a stupid place so you keep on pressing it? I have seen a forum where sombody was doing that.

right well emm.... we have thought that maybe it could be down to a possible cpu over heating..... that is one possiblilty so... there is definitly no way of hitting the power button by accident as this is at the back of keyboard so... yep its just randam you could have it on say 10 mins and it does it and then it will reboot and then it will be a hour or so before it does it again.. etc.. sometimes longer its never a percific time so.... he's never doing the same thing when it happens either... it actually cause like a serious error as you briefly see a blue screen and white writing as it goes to reboot as well...so...

Heat could certainly be an issue, although that is less likely with a laptop since they are designed with heat as a major consideration. With a 3.4 Ghz chip though... it could get pretty warm.. Try running it with either one of those laptop pads that are designed to dissipate heat or with a desktop fan blowing on it and see if it still crashes...
You can set WinXP to not reboot when it encounters a fatal error, it may be worthwhile to do that in order to find out what error message it is generating.... I think there is also a record of it in the incident log, but I am a bit foggy on that...
While it may not be a virus, it still could be malware... It would be a good idea to run Spybot and AdAware... You can download them from the links below and then update them before running them. Fix whatever AdAware finds and fix the items printed in RED in Spybot... Reboot between each...

Are you running any kind of wireless or cabled network? the reason I ask is that I Had the same trouble withe reboots and it turned out to be a conflict with my network setup.
Budfred is right about turning off the auto reboot in XP till you can narrow down problem
My notebook is a Compaq, which is not as good as the Mesh
I would say you are probably having either a driver problem or software conflict.

I'm leaning toward heat too, like budfred and the reverend. Laptops are built with good cooling, but quite different than a desktop machine. The ones I've seen don't run the fan all the time, just when it gets warm and the fan is needed. That's to conserve power. The fan is usually fairly small, mine is 1 1/4" on a P-II 266 Toshiba. same for the 800mhz-1.2Ghz laptops I've seen from Dell, Gateway and Compaq. My 486 had a fan that size on the CPU... I'm not sure if it's enough to handle that CPU. Also I don't think the CPU itself has a fan, (none of the ones I've opened up have) it usually depends on the system fan and good airflow.
That might not be enough fan to handle the heat your CPU builds up, it could have dust built up inside, or the fan could be failing. I think the idea to disable auto-shutdown on errors is a good idea but for troubleshooting only. Once you figure out what's happening it might be better to have it set to shut off so the CPU won't get fried. I think the setting should be in the Power Management section of Display Settings, Screensaver tab. Not sure though, I haven't looked through those settings closely.
The logs can be viewed in Administrative Tools if I remember correctly.

Please start your own thread... This one is more than 3 years old and is about a different issue... Also, please provide as much detail as possible if you want help since too little info will delay any assistance you might need...
