I am selecting the components to try and build my first computer. I've never done this before so it's a new adventure. I thought about just buying another Dell but I don't want all the extra stuff they put on it.

Anyway, the motherboard that I have tentatively picked out is an ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe, i865PE Chipset for Socket 478 CPU (newegg.com). The IDE lists: 2x UDMA 100 by ICH5R, 1x UDMA 133 by Promise 20378.

The hard drive tentatively selected is a Samsung 80GB, 7200rpm, SATA hard drive with Interface=Serial ATA.

From what I can tell these are compatible, True? Sorry if this is a really stupid question but I want to make sure I'm buying compatible components.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance :-)

Short answer : Yes.

The motherboard has SATA ports so any SATA hard drive should work.
