Yesterday I installed a new Processor (Intel Celeron 1GHz). I turned on the computer to check if it works, and it did.
After that I changed the IDE cables, because they were not set ideal. When I started the computer again it gave strange beeps!!! 1 long beep and about 5 or 6 short beeps.
What could be the problem?
- Could the processor be burned down?
- Could the IDE cables be set wrong (1 hd, master, with 1 cdrw, slave on 1 cable (IDE 1) and 1 dvd-rom, master on the other cable (IDE 2)?
- Could the RAM be damaged?
- Or could it be somthing else?

Please let me know!!!

Greetings Duff

Hi Duff,
Find out what bios you have and make sure you count the beeps correctly.
Then take a look [http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm#04]HERE.[/URL]

Good Luck

Make sure the IDE cables are correctly installed(red stripe aligns with pin 1, or red stripe is on the same side as the power cables on the back of the drives).
If no luck, replace the IDE cables.

Also, it's not a good idea to install the CD-RW drive on the same IDE channel as the hard drive. It will slow down your system's performance.

In addition, check that the processor is compatible with your motherboard.

The HDD needs to set at the end of the ribbon cable. Not in the center. True, a CD-ROM/CD-RW will eventually probably cause data corruption if used on the HDD ribbon.

Check RAM real close. Pull it and re-seat if necessary.

You have on board video?

Look for a sticker, etc. on the BIOS chip and let us know who made it and we can try to decipher the beep codes.

Luck.
