Any body can tell me on what is the maximum compatible CPU for socket 7. Currently i'm using AMD K6-2/350 Mhz.

Thans in advance.

That would depend entirely on the mother board....some have support for faster CPUs than others.

So get the board info and we'll go from there.....

Running a k6-2 at 350mhz tells me you are running a 100mhz bus with a multiplier at 3.5. (assuming no overclocking) Some socket 7 boards support only up to 66mhz. Since yours supports 100mhz, it seems to be one of the "newer" socket 7 boards; those typically had a multiplier that worked to 5.5 x 100mhz. Support for the correct voltage is there; both the 350 and a 550 run at 2.2v. With the info you supplied, 550mhz would be the "design" max. Doublecheck by opening the case (if you have no documentation) and look on the motherboard; somewhere on the board should be a table that lists either a jumper and/or slider switch with values like 3x, 3.5x, 4x, etc.

Depending on the socket 7 motherboard, you can set the multiplier to 2x (with a 550mhz chip installed); a K6-2 chip should detect this as 6x and you get squeeze out an extra 50 mhz for 600mhz total. Since this overclocking is realtively small (9%), your CPU should run no problem. If you do decide to overclock for the extra 50mhz, make sure you install a good size heat sink (use thermal paste!), a good fan on the heat sink, and an extra case fan. You'll be good to go.

Thank you guys for your professional advice.

I'll check on the motherboard.
