coop....
The best is AVG.
www.grisoft.com (http://www.grisoft.com) Sometimes their download is slow as they don't have two or three mirror sites to choose from for downloads. Excellent program tho.

IMO, AVG is the best (www.grisoft.com). The other I've tried is AntiVir (www.hbdev.com). My opinion is based mainly on interface. It's what I use, but I'd be interested to hear what anyone else has to say.

I will third that. Great program. Easy to setup and setup for integration with DAP so that all downloads are scanned as soon as they are down. Regular updates as well. 10 out of 10

OK, first i'll answer the DAP question-Download Accelerator Program-best download manger there is on the market IMHO. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I'm on broadband, and i still use it because it provides better consistent downloads.
As for free antivirii program(s), i'll have to go with the rest of the comments here-BUT, i've been using Norton for years, and i'll have to say i still believe it to be far superior to any free program simply because it's in their business interest to continue support/advancement for their product, it's their lifelyhood. Whereas freebies are generally only updated/supported when the individual(s)-{re companies here also } have time and desire to improve their product.
Norton is a bit picky sometimes, but when you consider the task(s) it has to perform and the different types of OS's/system configurations it has to function with-it's pretty darn great at it's job.

I have One purchaged antivirus and I also download AVG from www.grisoft.com (http://www.grisoft.com)
One day when I inserted floppy, firstly I warned by purchaged antivirus that there was a boot sector virus in drive A: and in action taken note "it is boot sector virus and can not clean it" .AVG give me a warn it was same as my purcheged antivirus give me but there is two button "ok"and "Heal" when I click on the "heal" the boot sector virus is removed and my floppy is now clean. So I am agree with ranchdog that AVG is the best
