I'm new here here so I'll start by saying hello, however I do have a question. My computer died a few days ago and my friend wants to sell his, I'm actually using it right now, however I need to know whether it's any good for playing higher end games. It seems alright but as I only have an intermediate knowledge of such things, I would like to get an experts opinion. here are the specs: Athlon xp 2200 processor, 512 mb ddr, ati radeon 9200 128 mb 8x agp in a 4x slot, the motherboard is an asrock k7vm2 motherboard with a via chipset. On a scale of 1 to 10 how good is this system (performance wise) and how much should I pay?

Welcome Blueeon

Play highend games, it might play them how well is the question. There is enough Ram ,512 is fine---Barton 2200 with an ATI 9200 is not a very good combination for higher end games released after say 2003. Battlefield Vietnam, Pain Killer any new FPS could give you a fit, if they played at all.

How good is the system ?? around a 5

How much should you pay for it ?? around $175 to $200 sounds fair

Buy it only if you can play [ within reason] games that you like. If your buying this with the intention of putting any game around on it, you might be very dissapointed---or buy it as a second computer and build your own if you feel up to that---or spend $2000 and buy an Alienware Gaming Computer and have a ball.

You could take a detailed spec list to pricewatch.com and then add it up and cut it by 40 percent or so for being used. You didnt say what kind of psu and other ide devices, speakers it has so its hard to say. 175 seems a bit low to me.

yes, I agree with variable about the 175-200 being kinda low. The 9200pro, although being a pretty outdated is still a half decent card, and if you're not super-obsessed over graphics preformance, it'll be fine. seeing as the MoBo has an AGP 4x, its probablly not that great (ie. limited upgradibility).

I would pay $500-$550 for it

If you purchased every part NEW for that setup you would not spend $550 unless you got the parts from a local store. Ive built several computers around that vintage for under $400 not including the OS.

Bumstedmans ----I have a bridge I would like to sell you, it 1s also used but works.

Yes, maybe blueeon forgot to mention it comes with Logitech Z-680's and an Antec True Power True550 Power Supply!

Not to mention a state of the art DVD Burner, and a 21" LCD Monitor. (Just to name a few of the "extras").

The list goes on and on.....not enough time to mention everything.

variable ----your right we are not sure whats in this computer, it might be worth more then my bid of $200---Ive been pulling computers out of my recycling spot in town, putting $75 or so into them and giving them to needie people---2 pent III last month 1.2 Mhz cpu --1 problem was a bad IDE cable in one the other was a bad optical drive [ it took out the IDE mobo controller, installed another used drive and all is well]and a new CMOS battery-----------

You can build an a fine computer for under $400 ---not a gamer but a solid computer.

As for the bridge [ The Brooklyn Bridge] act quickly I have a hot prospect.

kooky ??? could be---that I can work on, as soon as I sell this stinking bridge.

A friend of mine combs the salvation army/good will constantly. He brings home laser printers from time to time and I go over and get them running, if possible. So I went out with him one time and couldn't find anything worth my trouble. Guess you have to go all the time.
I would like to find about three small desktops that I could use for networking practice.

You know if you would stop doing yardwork and get out there and hustle you might sell that dang bridge...

Interesting fact combing the recycling spot I find 6 Gateways to 1 Dell, most all have somthing to contribute a 20 gig hdd, 256mb sdram a decent cdrw , a CPU a fan or two. I have solved more peoples problems with my [organized] collection of parts.

Ive taken the bridge off the market,a guy offered me a 150watt power supply and A six pack of coors lite---the nerve of some people.
