Last week I managed to get a friend's PC to "recognize" his DVD/CD-RW drive in the Device Manager and in My Computer as well. Yet when he inserts CD's in the drive, he continually gets this message "CD drive not available." The OS is WinXP.

I tried to find a Microsoft Knowledge base article but failed to come up with anything.

Well, I actually did manage to locate a Knowledge Base article but I'll have to see if it solves the problem.
