I recently reloaded win2k. I am now unable to play music cd's on winamp, windows medai player or real audio. I have a Lite-On DVDRW LDW 811-S dvd burner. I am able to access/burn data cd's & I can play mp3's already on the hdd as well as streaming audio. Also, when I try to load EAC, I get the error "The ASPI interface could not be initialized correctly". I went to ADAPTEC & dl'd the ASPI for win2k, still nogo. Tried unistalling the burner, nogo. Legacy audio drivers & media control devices are both "working properly". Any ideas?

TIA

Dan

I figured out the no cd audio part of this. I recalled I had had trouble with the drive producing a fair amount of noise through the speakers when there was nothing playing, so I disconnected the audio cable from the drive to the sound card & activated "enable digital cd audio for this device" in the drives properties. Now that I have re-enabled this post-reinstall, I can play cd's. Still can't load EAC though. If anyone knows what the deal is with that ("The ASPI interface could not be initialized properly" error) please pass it on.

Check that ASPI is installed correctly, or try a newer version of EAC.

I never had a problem with EAC on WinXP. Never installed ASPI either. Have Nero installed though, with its own ASPI support.

Hope the links help. EAC/LAME make a great ripper/converter combo, hope you get it to work. I wouldn't use anything else.:)

Thanks for the reply, I did a search on my error message (duhhhhh... ) and install EAC .95pb5 (I was a little leary of that "prebeta" business at 1st so got an older version). All is well now. I've been using EAC for quite awhile, never a problem b4. The article on ASPI is enlightening, thanks.
