View Full Version : Brand new E machine notebook freezes!
The notebook with the AMD64 Athlon CPU was working great when we bought it and then hours later, we installed an external mouse....Mouseware 9.7 from Logitech and the whole thing slowed down and froze......Why is this happening? Is there a way to fix this? We tried to remove the program, but it seems embedded still in ther registry. Help please..... We run on XP Home edition.

If it's brand new it should be under warranty. Have it looked at by the company you bought it from or call their tech support.
Also, usually no mouse drivers are nesessary for Windows, standard drivers are built into the OS, and usually XP will recognize and use anything Logitech makes with no problem, just plug it in.
I can safely say that because I've done it a number of times, and just used my Logitech USB Optical on a customer's computer today. My PS/2 mouse wouldn't work, so I plugged in the Logitech. It recognized and installed it, no drivers necessary and even the scroll wheel worked perfect. I've never had to install mouse drivers for anything since win95 was on my 486...
So...once you get this cleared up, plug in the mouse and use it, don't worry about drivers, they usually don't add anything exceptionally useful and often add unnecessary software to the startup, taking up system resources better used for other applications.

I agree with Pete, I ran Spybot after installing a Logitech MX700 and it came up with 5 spyware/adware issues from the Mouseware installation.
You don't need their add-on stuff.
:)
Well...for other readers' interest, we used the factory's restore CD to get rid of this TERRIBLE mouse problem. There was no way (for me) to remove the Logitech driver. We would remove it from the registry and it would show up in device manager. We uninstall it and it is still there, it was very frustrating. Because this computer is brand new, we did not mind erasing the hard drive. We then followed your advice and plugged in the external mouse and everything worked great! Just to prove a point.....with the Logitech driver installed, it would take on average 10 seconds or more to open up an icon. It would also take 10 seconds or more to switch from one web site to another. After restoration, we had to put our seat belts on, everything was responding sooooo fast the way it should be! Thanks for your help!

Glad you got it sorted out!
Just to add my nod of agreement to what the others said, I stopped loading Mouse Software a long time ago. (Well, especially since my early days with XP).
As you have experienced, it's usually nothing but trouble.
As PrntRhd mentioned, Logitech in particular actually installed Spyware and other Software on my sons Computer without my permission, and was a real pain in the neck to remove.
(I wrote them a nasty letter and email shortly after that).
Micro$ofts "Intellimouse" Software that comes with their Optical mouse, has always been a buggy piece of junk.
I'm with Pete concerning XP too. I don't even install most Digital Camera or Printer Software anymore either.
Simply plug the stuff in, and XP is great at recognizing it and installing it's own adequate drivers for the device....it's a wonderful thing!
Of course, if the Hardware is fairly old, it may be a different story.
Anyway, enjoy!
