My computer doesn't recognize the external USB cdrw (5224WU), it was supposed to be simple plug and play device. I checked my USB port and it is working properly with any other device, I also checked it in the BIOS and it's OK. By the way I use Microsoft Windows Millennium and my USB is 1.1. I downloaded a driver from BenQ website (usb_driver_v1.10) into my desktop and after opening it, chose the Uninstall component, after this and rebooting my PC, chose Update component as recommended by your pdf manual. It asks me for a new driver location but no matter where I want to locate, the same error message appears: move data process error 132 (copy_err_openinut). When trying to install the hardware manually, i.e. choosing the driver from a specific location on the add hardware option, the device is not in the list so I select a hardware from a list (storage device) and then as the manufacturer doesn't appear I just click on the USB Optical Disk. The systemk tells me that the software necessary has been installed but still the unit is not recognized. If I repeat the procedure and the in th e last part I choose (Have Disk) there is no .inf file to be found, the only one is on a floppy disk that came along (USB 2.0 Device Driver for Win98) but it says the specified location does not contain information about your hardware.
I have retried to download the available driver from Benq website but a message pops up saying that the Requested file was ot found on the server and the download has beeb stopped. Even though, the download process seems to continue but when it finishes the folder seems to be corrupted as theres no applicatio or setup file, only a .SYS and a setup information. I tried with other drivers with the same unsuccessful result. I cant figure what the problem is as I have spent nearly 4 hours trying to download the driver correctly.

This is driving me crazy!! I was expecting the hardware to be easy to install as it happened with the Hewlett Packard (it was so easy to install!) but this is frustrating. what should I do?

Additional information:
CDRW is an external unit with speed for USB2.9 52x24x52 and for USB1.1 6x6x4. CDRW unit's power working properly, the only problem is that it is not recognized by my PC

Go to BIOS, make sure USB is enabled and set to On instead of auto.

Check your device manager
See if the USB port and hub are listed with not extra highlites like the (!)
If the hub or port are not listed .
You will need to reinstall the usb drivers from the mother board / system maker

Then run the usb setup you downloaded
If it has an INF file right click it and then click install..
If the file you first downloaded is an install/setup ( exe) file run it.
Note where it installs the files if you can.

Then after all this reboot and plug in the device
then power it up.
