View Full Version : Sound card Problem(Bad Direct sound driver)

hello,

when i try to play an audio file using winamp, it throws me the following error:

Bad Direct sound driver.Please install proper drivers or select another
device in configuration. Error code: 88780000A

If I restart my Pc, its working fine and now suddenly it has stopped functioning?? what exactly is the problem, shld i restart it everytime when it doees'nt work, huh!!!

I tried to play the file using WMP and it has shown me some detailed information:

0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

Could somebody pls help me to troubleshoot this problem.

What ver. of Windows are you running? Also what sound card do you have?

I see the following multimedia installed on my pc with WindowsXP professional along with SP1.

Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller
MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device
Standard Game Port

Will this help??

Must be a fairly new PC, I have the same sound card. If could be several things: spyware, viruses, or need new drivers.
