Hey (Im new) One of my fans (LED) has been making this low whistle noise recently. I took it off of everything and it still makes the low whistle noise. Its annoying as hell is what it is.

Ive found this (from a store near me): http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0163576

It reduces noises by stopping the vibration in the fan. Would this work?

I also found this description in the PSU noise reducer product:

"Not all the noise created by system is simply air turbulence. Your fans, hard drives, and other moving parts also create vibrations that can be transmitted to your case. Now you can reduce this source of noise with Antec's Noise Killer products. Help quite case fans, power supplies, and other devices with these silicone gaskets and washers. Silicone gaskets and washers won't harden over time or lose their effectiveness. The Noise Killer PSU kit includes a power supply gasket, four screws with washers, and eight extra washers."

Think it would work for just stopping the fan noise? (not the PSU, but the fan product)

Don't you think that whistling noises are warning signs that the fan bearings are worn out and that the fan could fail at any moment?

Better invest your money in a new fan, the product you mentioned won't even postpone the inevitable.

I would say that kiosk is pretty much on track here...it certainly sounds like you just need to replace the errant fan...

That site's a bit slow to load at the moment, but looking at your message it would seem thay are selling what I did for free.

Get some thin foam material, place your fan on it and draw around it, cut it out and slot it between fan and HS. You can make some plastic/foam washers for the fixings too if you feel inclined.
But I would suggest using spring/star washers on top of your home made ones as the softer material will give slightly... and here we have the reason it works...

Soft materials absorb sound, spin a penny on a metal table and it makes a din, wooden tables are quiter by comparison.

I even fitted foam to the case inside in a bid to silence me beast - NB Use fireproof foam here. The downside was I had to fit another exhaust as it was O/Heating... ces't la guerre!

The noise you are hearing could well be the fan playing up, put a dot of electrical grease on the bearings - pull the label off the centre to get at 'em - cover it up again mind.

It could also be indicative of a poorly fitted HS - rather depends on the noise - try recording it and we can play 'Guess that tune'
