Okay, printing problem. Windows 2000 pro. I had a lexmark Z45 printer which quit working. I could send documents to the print que, but they would just sit there. I figured it was a problem with the printer and I always hated that thing anyway, so I went out and bought a new samsung 1740 laser. Same problem. Only the new samsung comes with linux drivers and I can use the printer all day long when I boot linux. There is no windows driver to install, or rather, there is a binary executable that installs the driver and windows hardware installation is not an option.

So why would documents just get stuck in the print que and not print? I'm connected to a usb port and will not be connecting to a parallel port, even though the printer has one. (Only works for linux with usb)

By the way, this printer is great. Installation is a snap, even in linux redhat 9.0. It's only a hundred bucks after rebate and it's a real honest-to-goodness laser, albeit monochrome.

Samsung lists a "All Windows" driver Here (http://www.samsung.com/au/products/printerfaxcopysolutions/printerfaxcopysolutions/ml_1710.asp) (click on the drivers link at right,) and a manual if you didn't get one with it.

When you try to print, in Windows, do you have a printer icon in the task tray? If so you should be able to double click it and delete all print jobs, clearing the older ones, which might also be for the previous printer, and start over. Otherwise, the only thing I can think of is try to get the driver from their site and install it.

You'll probably have to completely remove the printer from Windows and re-install it from scratch. Usually printers don't have to be removed in Safe Mode, especially in NT based systems, they remove it pretty well in normal mode.

Rats...I thought of something else while I was typing and it just evaporated into thin air... I guess my train of thought derailed... :D

Did the printer print a test page?

Clear your temp file.

Install the driver as Pete advised.

One more thing. With Windoze, the timing of when you plug in the printer during installation is important
