hey i have a problem with what i think is my video card. A couple days ago I tried to turn on my computer. When I did the computer turned on and my pc turned on but the monitor went to power save mode and the pc started beeping, i opened it up and my video card connection was loose. I tightened it up and turned it on again. This time there was no beeping, the monitor was on and the computer was on but there was no signal between the two. I tried another video card and i got the diagnostic screen before xp starts up and everything else seemed to be working unfortunately it told me i needed to boot the system disk. What does this mean? What is wrong with my computer? Someone please help!!!

If I gather the sequence of events correctly:

1) You have installed another video card.
2) You haven't installed the drivers for the card you just plugged in.
3) You never uninstalled your previous cards drivers.

3 & 2 need doing first....but....

....lets not give up on the original card just yet, can I suggest you re-fit the original card and report back here exactly:

1) What happens
2) What you did before it went wrong - ie install anything
3) What beeps / lights / messages if any, that you hear/see.

We may get that first card going yet....

I really had not installed anything out of the ordinary, just an old copy of starcraft. I had attempted to download addaware to get rid of some pesky ish, but i didn't get to it and ended up with my comp bugged worse. As for the video card, i have connected the old one and tried to start my computer again. This is exactly what happens. Nothing. Nothing happens the computer turns on and does not beep at all not even the memory check beep occurs. The monitor if turned on already goes into power saver mode and does nothing.

When i had the new video card in the computer i did not have it installed. But i wasn't able to access the screen that would allow me to install the drivers or detect new hardware or anything. All I got was a dos style prompt message saying, "Reboot system disk", what does that mean? I have no idea. I was talking to a friend and he thinks that it may be in all actuality a harddrive problem. Any thoughts now
