What will happen if I exchange the bios between two motherboards? Will smoke and burning smell occur?

One motherboard, a micro star, comes with award bios v4 51pg; the other motherboard, a hsing tech, comes with amibios c1997 released 083097s.

Both bios and motherboards of 1997/8 vintages.

I find the amibios more dependable with its motherboard than the awardbios with its corresponding motherboard.

What do you guys think, should I proceed with the experiment. Anyway these machines are an easy bargain to replace in the neigbhorhood surplus dealers who always have some old stocks for guys like me.

AAARGH!

You CANNOT swap BIOS's. The bios is configured by the Mobo's manufacturer specifically for the exact model, version, variant and colour of the mobo they sell to you or distributors.

The BIOS is the lowest level of software on a PC and is hardware specific.

It cannot be done, best you can do is get the latest variant for your board.

Anyhow, exactly how did you intend to do this?

The bios chips are not soldered into the motherboards, they can be removed with care using a popsicle stick tapered at one end.

Tell me though, if I do so, will there be physical damage to any components, that would be irreversible; or would the respective machines not work or work very poorly, without any physical damages?
