I just built a new computer, here are the specs:

AMD Athlon XP 3200+
1GB Corsair DDR RAM
160GB HDD (x1)
GeForceFX 5200
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe MB

So, the BIOS tells me that the mobo runs at 29 degrees C, but the CPU runs at a consistent 49C. I've never built a computer before so is this pretty standard for AMD processors? What are some things I can do to lower the temperature?

Thanks in advance everyone

49° isn't extremely high, depends wether it's under load or idle of course...

Things that make for lower temps are:

- good thermal compound (the stuff between the proc and the heatsink)
- better heatsink
- bigger cpu-fan
- more casefans / better airflow in the case
