howdy,
i have an ECS K7VTA3 mobo. yesterday i added some new memory. it is the exact bran, voltage, speed, etc. except the new stick is 256megs. i install the stick, turn on computer. beeeep...beeeep...beeeep... until i turn it off. i took out the stick. same response. i tried all slots with both sticks in every combonation. same thing. is this a common problem with a know fix? might have i of damaged the mobo when installing? ill be happy to supply any more information if it is needed. email at rnolen42@home.com thanx all!

Sounds as though you may have knocked something loose inside the case while you were in there. Check around for disconnected wires and/or cables.

Those beeping sounds may be your bios trying to tell you something. Do they stop after they sound off, or do they just keep going until you power down?

Is this what you put into the mobo? 3 x 184-pin DDR DRAM PC1600/PC2100 Support? This mainboard only takes DDR style Ram and you must use the same speed that your AMD cpu requires. If you are trying to use PC1600 DDR Ram with a cpu that will only run on PC 2100, for example, it might beep like crazy. Otherwise, you may have thought it was fully seated when in fact, all connectors were not flush....I would reseat the ram and make sure the "holders" are in the slots on the ends of each stick.

im using pc2100 DDR ram with an athlon xp 1600+. im very sure it isnt the connectors. when i first installed the ram, i placed the second stick in, and left the first alone. when it didnt boot i took out the add-on stick, and it still would not boot.

After you have re-seated the RAM, try heading into the BIOS. SAVE and EXIT without making any changes. Reboot and see if it is then detected properly.

Sorry molen! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif That's the kind of question you get wrong on a test for not reading it carefully! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Well, let's try this again! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Reread your post and it sounds as though everything was working properly until you added the new RAM? Is that correct?

Did you exercise grounding precautions to prevent electrostatic discharge? It takes 2000 volts for us to feel a discharge and only 100-200 volts to fry a component! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif Not sure where you're from, but in the upper midwest during the winter ESDs are quite more prevalent! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif
Did you check the BIOS beep codes for your MB?

You may want to consider clearing the CMOS to get back to the default settings and give it a shot.
