hi
iv'e been messing about with msdos, and seem to be stuck there, every time i boot, i get the, windows 98 is loading, then the c:/ prompt followed by, you are currently in ms dos, to return to normal windows press y/n or type 'win'. this done, and everything else, 'ie' transferring my start up files from the floppy, ect ect,. i just keep returning to the same old black screen (sorry before it says, return to normal windows) the fraze. bad command or file name , is stated.
i know this problem might be a 'tedious' one but if there is anybody out there whom may have a little patience, please persevere.

hello Billchad and welcome,
Are you booting with a startup disk in the drive? If so, try without it.
Also, when prompted to return to Windows, are you only typing Y, then hit enter?

Post back what is in your autoexe.bat and config.sys files.
I'm sure you just have one of the statements that starts Windows in DOS mode. A little editing should fix it right up http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

AUTO EXEC
MODE prepare code page funtion complete
MODE select code page function complete
the config sys file,
device=c:\WINDOWS\himem.sys
devicehigh=c:\WINDOWS\EMM386.exe
device=c:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)
country=044,850,c:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys
DOS=SINGLE
DOS=HIGH,UMB
