i put together a computer with this specs
asus p2lb mb
intel slot 1 300mhz cpu
8.5gb western digital hard drive
50x cd rom
128 mb sdram
32 mb s3 savage 4 video card
sound-modem card combo

my problem is that on booting the system freezes with a sandclock on a dark background. if i restart i can get into safe mode , then restart again and the computer boots normal. i suspect it is a driver issue with the video card because if i used a different one the problem does not happens. i have the most recent drivers for this card and do not want to spend more money using a new one. is there a way in which i can still use this card without having to restart several times to get the computer working ok? thank you for your help and advice

Start in Safe mode with the Savage card installed, write down the driver files for all video cards listed in Device Manager, delete these files from Windows and remove all video cards from Device Manager, restart, let Windows install its drivers for the Savage card. If it does not have drivers, install the ones from the Savage CD. If you do not have the CD, install older drivers from the Savage site.
If that works, install the latest drivers. If the problem reappears, go back to the older drivers.
