Hi
Here's a nice easy problem for you: I have a floppy stuck in floppy drive... will NOT come out. Any ideas how I can get this out without paying someone $100.00... in other words, how I can get it out myself?
No idea what kind of floppy it is, I have a new (old) Compaq with tower HD.. floppy is under the CD. (??)

Here is what I have tried:
a. letter opener
b. emery board (thin thing to file nails)
c. knife
the flopy seems snuggest on the edges, left and right, not in the middle.

Any thoughts appreciated

Thanks

Zezz

Go to a medical supply store and buy a pair of hemostats. They are like a cross between scissors and tweezers except they lock. Folks from the 70's will recall other uses.

In any event, open the floppy door and grip the floppy with the hemostat. Lock the handle. Lift the floppy up and pull it out. When a floppy is inserted it drops in a little bit, so remember to lift it up before you pull it out.

Hi Classic in PA
Well, that worked, I used needle-nose plyers, no problem got the disc out. Now my floppy won't work and the silver cover piece is still in there???
Any ideas

You should be able to get the metal ring out with tweezers or needle noze pliers. You just have to be carefull

It is that the little metal slider?
You are going to need something slimmer than the needlenose plier, but should be able to remove it.

It may be easier to remove the floppy from the computer, and actuall open the drive case.
If you do it that way, check the drive before screwing everything together, as the heads may have been ddamaged, and the drive would need replacing.

Yikes! I think I'd rather pay the $100. than try that! However, if all else fails, may find the courage.
thanks

OK, thanks. Since this has happened, does it mean there is something wrong with the floppy? My new (used) computer is still under warranty
I have never had this happen before and have been using computers over 10 years (trying to)
