Hi

Just want to know at what temperature should i begin to worry about damage to my cpu. My current heatsink keep the temp around 60 - 65 celsius. Is this a safe temperature to have my cpu operate at or am i risking damage to my CPU?

My cpu is an AMD Athlon 900Mhz

Thanks

Rob

I beleive the processor is designed to operate at around 185 degrees Fahrenheit (85 celsius). So you're in good shape. Do you have an additional cooling fan for the cpu? If not, it's a good investment. Also, there is an advance feature in BIOS--which is specific to the mother board, prcessor, and chipset-where you can enable a 'shutdown temperature'-If enabled, this setting causes the CPU to be shut down when either of the High or Low CPU Warning Temps is reached. You will have to supply all of your specs for us to determine if this feature is available on your system. Good luck

Hey,

Hmmm, if it were my CPU, I would get a better HSF for it. I would be way too nervous with temps that are contantly over 60 Celsius.

Cheers,

I have ASUS Probe that came with my mainboard (ASUS A7V133). It has a default temperature setting of 85 celsius. There isnt much said on the cpu website about safe temperaute of operation.

Hi Shorak

Temps in the in the 60c range would make me nervous too esp. in winter. Like BB said I would be looking into a good hs and fan. You might also want to check your temp. in the bios Asus Probe has been known to give faulty readings. Make sure that the cables aren't blocking the air flow and the hs isn't caked with dust ( got to clean mine out my temps are rising). Temps. in the 40s and low 50s would be much better.

Any suggestions on heatsinks that will give me good cooling and arnt too noisy at the same time? any comments on Zalman or coolermaster?

Thanks

Rob

If the your Athlon uses a slot A, then it has a max 70 deg C oper. temp.
Definitely install a better heat sink and fan if this is the case.

If it's using a socket A, then its max is 90 deg C.
Upgrading the heat sink and fan is optional, but do so if you will not be able to sleep at night.

I have a Slot A Athalon 900 and it has a dual fan ....temp usually at about 35 C (95 degrees). If your fan doesn't run at 5500 rpm's or greater, I would get a better fan.
