hello.my keyboard for no apparent reason has a key problem,
the caps lock takes the keys to large case but will not return them back to small, i have to use the left shift key for that, there is no problem with sticking keys and the board is only months old,(microsoft internet keyboard) no dust or other problem,
i have reinstalled it over and over again ,everything says it's working ok
the plug is ok, ps2 connection.
i have even downloaded the intelli keyboard prog for the board but no difference (since uninstalled) borrowed a new keyboard from work to try and it had the same problem, so it's no use buying a new one if it's the comp itself at fault.
any clues? i have win xp pro / 160 gb / 512 ram
also i borrowed another keyboard a logitech hi grade, downloaded the correct driver for this and installed them both correctly and the problem still there, could it be the xp pro needs a repair although the comp:works excellent and my mozllia browser is lightning and nothing else is amiss
i have searched the problem in microsoft pages for hours but found nothing on this, and the microsoft newsgroups, sorry to say there help is laughable,i don't think they read past the first line of the letter sent
thankyou
derek toyne:confused:

Update your AV program, and do a virus search.
Also, remove any spyware with Ad-aware, Spybot, and CWShredder.
If the problem persists, then run Hijack This, and post it's results back here.

hello ski, thanks for the reply i do have an upto date virus scanner-
mcafee pro , and spybot running with no detectable spyware i also have system mechanic pro with scheduled cleaning progs i'm very into running a spot on comp:
what about a repair xp run ,the only thing with this is that you have to download all the updates again that have appeared since the cd updates i sent for,i can't think what has happened here,it's the only malfunctioning key on the board(or on the comp)
i also have zone alarm (latest version)as this free prog came out the best one of all the firewalls this and my mcafee have been running prior to this keyboard problem
thanks
derek

Does the on-screen keyboard at "AllPrograms/Accessories/Accessibility" work properly?

Also, see if a system restore fixes things before doing a repair.

HELLO AGAIN
paul, the on screen keyboard has the same problem,
that was a good idea to check this anyway,
ski,the problem has been on too long for system restore to correct
as i said iv'e been tyring for weeks through microsoft help pages and newsgroups to sort this out
i have a second hard drive (120Gb) should i reinstall xp pro on this to see if that sorts it out or will it causes problems,i could live with the keyboard malfunction but its inconvenient when typing and i'm one of thoses blokes who likes things to work as they should.
cheers derek

I hear you. I'm one of those blokes too.

I believe that a system restore point was saved when XP was initially installed. But you will have to reinstall all applications, updates, etc., if you restore to that point, and that can be a hassle.
You can try doing an XP install on the 2nd HD. But you may have to disconnect the existing boot drive, and jumper the 2nd HD as Master and connect it to the IDE 1 cable to see if that fixes the KB problem.

Since this is a software issue it may well be by design, since different countries use the CAPS LOCK differently. Some end its action by toggling it others by using the shift key. Some use it to turn numbers on and othes dont. Etc, etc.

What I am getting at (and without knowing where the settings might be located) is that perhps there is a regional, language, keyboard layout setting somewhere or even maybe you are just using foreign keyboard drivers.

I bet this nut could be cracked if we could only find the nutcracker.

Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.
On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details. Hit the Key Settings Button and make your choice from the radio buttons at the top.
