Hi all my first post and its a bit stupid really i am reasonably ok on hardware but this has me baffled. Renewed hard disk in Packard bell system loaded windows etc from spare machine installed hard drive

now showing cmos checksum bad and cmos display type wrong

tried to clear using jumper settings makes no difference and press F1 to run setup keyboard locks Press F2 to load defaults key board locks

tried all the usual things but to know avail shows keyboard error if unplugged so post cmos ok

this was a favour for a mate always happens when your good samaritan

appreciate any ideas:confused:

hie wellin, Welcome to the PCguide Forums... :)

The CMOS battery may be dying, so you may try replacing it with a new one.

...or it may be viruses / motherboard / powersupply problem. (http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/comp/mbsys/bios_Corrupted.htm)

Hi,

How old is your PC? I am just wondering cause in the old days when you change your harddrive you had to go into the CMOS and setup the HD parameters and "Save" then "Exit". In more recent PCs they have the auto detect which automatically set the HD parameters.
I suggest you go back into CMOS and check if HD parameters are correct. As always a "save" and "exit" from COMS would help.
