I inherited a LaserJet 1100 at work because the person who had been using it got tired of the problem it has with loading paper... More than one sheet and it will jam... I have been using it one page at a time (and using a different one for big documents)... I read the support info on HP's site and found that the IT people had done the cleaning and replacing of the roller a number of times without success... I am wondering if anyone in the PCGuide ranks has dealt with this printer problem successfully.... Any help would be appreciated....

It is likely that it would work better if I use heavy and expensive paper, but it is not likely to happen.... I am going to take some nice paper I have at home to try it, but haven't remembered to do it yet... Any other ideas??

Looks like a very infamous problem with that particular printer.

Repair sites are selling special kits that supposedly fixes the problem

HP LaserJet 1100 Paper Jam Repair Kit - fixyourownprinter.com (http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kki0.html)

HP LaserJet 1100 Pickup Jam and Multiple Page Pickup, Ufix-it.com ... (http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/nationaltonertech/1100jam1.htm)

An article which attempts to analyze and find a fix

Troubleshoot chronic paper jams on HP LaserJet 1100 printers (http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-6255-5030043-1.html)

Comments on this article also includes talks of a class action suit, unfortunately the link to that site is not working.

Class action lawsuit information
The HP LaserJet 1100 series was indeed named in a class action lawsuit along with LaserJet models: 5L, 6L, 3100 and 3150. The plaintiff of the suit (Extensis Inc. v. Hewlett-Packard, Docket No. MID-L-6843-01) alleges, "HP manufactured certain LaserJet printers that experienced performance problems related to the paper feed mechanism during the expected useful life of the units. Plaintiff alleges that these performance problems result from defectively designed separation pads which oxidize, degrade, and harden during the expected useful life of the unit, and often cause the printer to multifeed paper."

Looks like you got yourself a bad inheritance, Budfred. :D Good luck to you.

I had the same problem with an HP laser printer (can't remember the model) a couple of years ago - nothing solved the problem, and HP couldn't help. The printer would drag multiple sheets of paper through and jam up. the only thing that I can think of is is that the feed roller is applying too much pressure, moving more pages than it should. try it with a couple of sheets of acetate, and see if they will go through.
Another problem could be moisture content. Try running a few sheets through (one at a time) until it is warmed up, and then try putting a few sheets into the paper tray DIRECTLY from a package of paper. HPs do tend to run fairly cold to begin with, which is supposed to be part of their energy saving mode.

Thanks for the info and ideas... I think I will probably have to continue with one page at a time... I would have to pay for any repairs I attempt and it looks like the parts are expensive... They also don't seem to be all that likely to work... I can buy a new laser printer for $100 this week, so I will just put up with it...
