I have a Advent 750Athlon,370Ram,win98,geforce3ti2
For about a month and now more frequently while im playing a game(mostly after about a couple of mins),the screen freezes up totally and i cant reset, even ctrl-alt-del ,i have do it manually tried scandisc, defrag and virus check, but nothing, so i upgraded my graphics card put the latest drivers on and the games still freeze, also wolfenstein is very choppy on a med-high resolution, which it shouldnt be with a geforce3 . I heard win98 needs reinstalling once in a while as its been on here for nearly two years, but i wouldnt know what to do as im really thick with computers.
thanks

Some things to check:
-Restart your computer and stop all running programs except Explorer and Systray(Press Ctrl-Alt-Del on your Desktop).
-Clean out the Windows/Temp folder.
-Reinstall the game(s).
-Make sure your CPU, video and sound cards are fully inserted.
-If you use a PCI sound card, try it in another slot.
-If your motherboard came with onboard video, make sure the OB video is disabled(do this either in BIOS or with jumpers on your MB).
-If you added a new video card, make sure the old card's drivers are deleted from Windows and the Registry.
-Try older drivers for the video card.
-Turn off anti-aliasing for your video card.
-If you have a VIA chipset, make sure it's using the latest 4-in-1 drivers.
-Make sure the video and sound cards are not sharing their IRQ's('IRQ Holder For PCI Steering' is ok).
-Do not use Turbo settings in BIOS.
-Set AGP to 1X instead of 4X(in BIOS?).
-Connect only the game controller that's used for play and make sure it's listed as No. 1 controller in Control Panel/Multimedia.
-If your Game Controller is connected to the sound card's Gameport, switch it to a USB port(assuming your system supports USB and the Controller is USB compatible).
-Check your computer for cooling problems(make sure its vents are open and are not near any surface, it's not located in a fully enclosed space, all fans are running, no wires or cables are obstructing any fan's air flow).
-Check the CPU for bent or broken pins.
-Apply new heat transfer compound between the CPU and its heat sink.
