The system counts up the RAM and shows that there is a HD and CD-Rom (although somewhat slowly) but then the screen goes blank. I cannot boot from a floppy nor does it go to the HD. I can access the BIOS but do not see anything there that has changed. Any ideas?

Info/details on the system (motherboard, CPU, drives....)

When was the last time it worked/ did it ever work?

Have you added any new hardware to the machine latley?

What was the last thing you did before it quit working?

You can get into BIOS find the boot order and make sure it is set to allow booting to a floppy, also set the IDE drives to auto detect.

Unfortunately a Bios can "post up" showing a Hard Drive present and the Hard Drive can STILL be a goner. Set the bios to choose the FLOPPY drive 1st[you have to do this in bios or it wont boot to a floppy]+ enable "Floppy Drive Seek" option - then boot the system up with a floppy boot disk containing FDISK.....see if FDISK sees the HD. I think you might have a dead hard drive.
