I have problems with installing a game (Return to castle Wolfenstein) from CD. The installation aborts with: IO ERROR.
I believe this must be a system problem, as my friends have no problems
installing the game from the same CD.
My system:
K7S5A Elitegroup
256 DDR Apacer
1,6 ghz Athlon
Mitsumi 40* CD Rom Master IDE 1
Acer 8*4 Burning Rom Slave IDE 1
Windows ME
Graphics: Vodoo 3
1 Hard Disc master 40ghz IDE 0
1 Hard Disc slave 6 ghz IDE 0
Could there be someting wrong with my IDE connection? Cable to long? Or
the master slave configuration?

Hey,
Your IDE connections look OK to me. Is this a brand new system or have you had it for awhile, and you know everything works right?
Have you tried installing from both ROM units, or just one?

You can also try copying the Cd to the hard drive and setting it up from there, if it gives an error when trying to copy the disk is most likely dirty or damaged...

Tried to install from both rom units.
Tried to install with two Mediums.
System is rather new (self constructed) but not running properly.
Got problems with my sound. Not running propperly if Video, Animation and
sound come together (AVI and so on)

I'm guessing this means 2 different disks.
Tried to install with two Mediums.
And Like you said, others have used these same disks with no problem so that should narrow that down. Any other problems reading disks with these drives?
It sounds like you are having either an I/O conflict, or software incompatability problem that you need to deal with before going any further with this machine. It may not be the cause of your install problem, but needs to be dealt with first.
What is the exact error message?

Hey,
If you're having problems with the sound and video at the same time, it's more than likely you have an IRQ conflict. They are probably both using the same IRQ and not playing nice with each other.
Have you tried different PCI slots for the soundcard? If not, try that and see if the system will assign an IRQ that's different than the one the video card is using.
I agree, you should get your system stable before you try to fix something else.
Cheers,

O.K. Problem solved, ERROR not fixed!
Did get another CD, same game (Wolfenstein).
No problems installing the game.
So there was in fact something wrong with the 2 CDs i got before.
But why did they work with the systems of my friends?
As i did not work either with CD Rom or CD Burning Rom I can not be a drive problem.
Any further suggestions?
