I need to buy a DVD burner now as I have no room left on my computer. At one of the cheaper IT places they are selling a LG GSA-4082B 8X +/-/RAM BGE DVD BURNER for $120. Can someone tell me what features this does have and which features it doesn't have?? How fast can a DVD be burnt using 8 speed?? I'm also very confused about - and + and RAM and ROM and dual layer burners etc. I'm thinking it's best to try and buy a dual layer DVD burner so I can burn twice as much on one DVD? Does anyone know if standard DVD burners such as the one above can burn dual layer DVDs? and can these dual layer DVDs be read on DVD players, normal computer DVD drives?? If not, are these special dual layer DVD burners expensive or a lot more than standard ones? Are dual layer DVDs much more expensive than normal DVDs??

I thought I'd provide this information for you first. If you have an OfficeMax in your area you might want to have a look at this deal: http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prodBlock.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&expansionOID=-536892754&prodBlockOID=537230274

I'm afraid I won't be able to answer your questions about the dual layer DVD burners. However, I suspect that they will be quite pricey in their initial release just as DVD burners were when they first supplanted CD-RWs

That link you sent me didn't work. I actually just got some junk mail in my letterbox for Sony Central. Even though I thought they're usually expensive it says here they are selling a Sony Dual Layer DVD Burner (DRU 700A) for $180. I still don't understand these + and - DVD formats though.

Sorry about that...

www.officemax.com In the search box type in "Micro Advantage" and it will pull up their weekly sale for a DVD burner. Cost after immediate rebate and a mail in $50.00 rebate is $39.95.

Or, just pull up the weekly sales ads...should be on the front page.

The foloowing site give it some good write ups from owners

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters, put the name and serial code in and then read the reviews.

With regard to -/+, most DVD's are compatible with - format, however only newer DVD players are compatible with + format., when I say DVD palyer I mean the one under your TV not in your PC.

Dual Layer?? Problem is the cost of the disks when they arrive are going to be very expensive, about 10 times the price of a normal single layer.
