A friend's old Dell wouldn't boot after a lightning hit nearby. (He had forgotten to unplug the phone line to the modem before the storm.)

Now when it powers up, the power lights to both the monitor and tower, blink continuously and the hard drive light stays lit. Is there any particular meaning to these lights?

The cpu fan runs but nothing else appears to be working. I'm just starting to test individual components for possible salvage.

Thanks for any feedback.

Could any previous reply to this posting have been lost in the server problems?

I figure the lights have meaning. I somewhat shy away from power supply stuff.

Thanks again.

THIS LINK (http://www.monitorservice.com/board/messages/391.html) may be relevant to your monitor or not but it seems to indicate a short-circuit in that Dell monitor - which doesn't sound so good if it is the same for you. I'm sure someone here will have some better ideas than me but meanwhile you could try a few Google Searches (http://www.google.com) or try Dell Support (http://support.dell.com/)

Which models (pc and monitor) are you using and if you have a manual is there any trouble-shooting help there.

Luckily we don't get much lightening here. Hope you get sorted-out soon.
