I am using windows xp and have never used my floppy disk drive.
I tried to use it and it tells me to please insert a disk.
I know that this disk is valid and in good working order.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall my floppy disk drive and that did not
correct the problem. When I go under device manager
it does not say that there is a problem with my floppy disk drive.

Any suggestions??

How about trying to format your diskette?

Disks and drives can get to be very finniticky and drives themselves can fail or get jummed up with dust.

If more than one "good disk" isn't recognised then consider swapping-in a known good drive to test-out or replace your current one; they are "ten-a-penny to buy".

Also do a check in side your floppy drive by opening the flap get a pen-a-light flash light and check if one of youror someones floppy disc cover is not inside. ;) It is quite easy to remove useing a long pair of tweezers, make sure your pc is diconected from your wall plug first ;) I know because it happened to me and I went and bought a new drive, after boxing every thing up I checked the old one and wella, there WAS a disc cover inside. Incidently the guys here told me to check that first :o . Check old posting of mine --- "A" DRIVE ("A") Drive/Floppie Drive
