Hello,

My computer starts to slow down after 2 hours or less. Then its impossible to click or close anything. I do that Ctrl + Alt + Delete, but some blue srceen comes up and says windows is unstable and some other stuff like that, but the close program window comes up about 2 minutes later after the blue screen, then the close program windows shows that everything is not responding. then from there everything just quits. I am running windows 98.

Does the slow down occur when you are on line or at all times and what modem do you have installed? Are you running any Antivirus Software?

A few things you could try. (1) Clear your cache. (2)Run ScanDisk. (3) Run Defragmenter (4) Run msconfig and from Selective StartUp uncheck Load Startup Group Items, reboot and then only run one or two programs.

Post back with any progress (or the lack of it)!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif Better minds than mine will have other suggestions or useful links I am sure.

Guardian - Unstable Windows might also be due to insufficient memory. Windows 98 should have at least 32 and preferable 64 or even 128 MB of RAM.

What has happened is you have run into a Virtual Memory
problem (swap file). Which leads back to a lack of available
RAM.

What I would do is run at least 256MB of quality RAM
and go from there.

Luck.

Hey I actually noticed a similar thing and a ram upgrade actually got rid of the blue screen messages and it was only with 184mb ram. The system still seems to slow from time to time, but it takes longer, several hours and hours of continuous use.. Also the scan and the defrag can clean up nicely.
I don't know as much as the previous posters, but I'm sharing what my experience was and basically what they said worked for me, though I did a little less.. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif good luck!
