I built a new PC a Amd Duron 800, with 256 MB PC-133 ram, blah blah
and it worked fine, untill I started installing all the Win98, drivers, etc...u know ... u gotta reboot sometimes!
anyways, when I did!!! the PC wouldn't boot!!!
IT DID have the power led on, and didn't beep!!!
just a blank screen and nada!!!, ok I've been having this problem for long!!!, just got used to it, but wanna fix it!!!
what I learned is that if I leave it off for about 10 minutes, it MAY come back on just fine!!! again it does this when rebooting,!!!
or doing a warm-boot! I just want some advice as 2 what 2 do!!!
ALL parts are BRAND NEW!!! (I HOPE!!!) my guess... power supply!
cause CPU temp is low .. at 76.2F around there!! voltages seem good, (how do I know all this u ask!!! motherboard monitor! tells u all temps, fan speeds and voltages!!)

anyways, what sould I do??? buy a new case with p/s????
I was thinking of this!!! buying a 350 watt p/s!!!
HELPPPP, please, before I go CRAZY!!!!

Don't threaten us with crazy around here. I get stranger problems than this free with my breakfast cereal.

Seriously though, I would say to check your bios first to see if there are any power management settings which could cause this kind of thing. You should also give your mobo make and model to narrow down things a bit.

Good luck! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

My motherboard is a A-trend model: ATA-V971-SX0 with Apollo KT-133 chipset Socket A, ATX

it only does it sometimes!!!
when I have to reset the pc, it will NOT boot, just power leds, no beeps, blank screen!!!, just turn it off for about 10 minutes or so, and... wallah!! it works just fine, but it is pissing me off!

i think that if the computer was working fine and all of a sudden you started having problems , the probability for bios problem is low even though is there. i would go for a new power supply and i bet your problem will be solved http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I've been having this problem from the start, and ALL the parts are brand NEW! but the case is cheapy!!! X-brand case and p/s!
I guess ill buy a new case then, with a 300 watt p/s!

What size power supply do you have now? AMD processors require at least 300watts with specific amps and/or milliamps being supplied on specific legs. Check your processor's requirements and then see if you power supply stands up to them.

Hi Daniel,

Remove the CPU fan/heatsink (with the power off) and see if there is a burned piece of plastic tape there. AMD is notorious for putting that little tape under the heatsink to cover the thermal gunk, but not making it big enough to notice.

Seen at least 4 AMD CPUs fried because of this (both Athlons and Durons). They run great for a while, even a couple of days, but then go south fast. Not removing the tape causes poor heat exchange between the CPU and the fan/heatsink, which in turn burns up the CPU.

If that tape is still on there, the CPU is toast. Sorry 'bout that.

jsk2315 If this little piece of tape is black and looks a lot like electrical tape with metal flakes it is thermal phase change tape and AMD recommends using it instead of "thermal gunk" because the thermal gunk heats up and migrates around the die and seeps down into the core of the CPU this problem is real bad with the silver paste it not only conducts heat but electricity too http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif
