Hi,

My PC just went dead. (Socket 370 motherboard, MATX, 700 MHz, Pentium 3, Win2000). When I try to power it on, nothing happens. It did give a few warning signs for the last 2 days. First, the OS kept crashing, so I tried to reinstall the OS. It then hung during installation. Then, it failed to boot with a 'Faulty CPU setting' warning. It asked me to press F1 to change BIOS, but F1 did nothing. Now, its completely dead when I power it on.
I followed some webpage on Power Supply testing and shorted pins 14/15 on the Powersupply-motherboard connector and got the power supply fan and CPU fan to turn on. That probably rules out the power supply or does it? How do you test if it is a Motherboard or CPU issue?

thanks in advance,
Melvin Desilva

I think I would try a new power supply first. Just unplug all connections and plug in new one and see what happens...don't even remove the old one (just in case). If still nothing, take that P.S. back and try something else. It could be the battery or failing memory. Have you reseated the dimms? Because of the "faulty CPU" warning, can you get another CPU that works in that MB to try?
